Projects

Currently, we are preparing to expand the 44 boat marina at Lake Simtustus RV Resort near Madras, Oregon. The marina has 406 feet of yacht moorage on the outside, and twenty four 20 foot by 10 foot slips toward shore. We will be adding twelve 4 foot wide by 30 foot long fingers to the outside of the West arm.

The marina is ADA accessible, with a sixty foot long by five foot wide ramp that is at a gentle five degree angle. There are four handicap accessible slips at the marina with special considerations for wheelchairs.

This marina contains 3880 square feet of floats, extends 100 feet into the lake, and is 366 feet long. Anchoring is provided by four large submerged concrete blocks connected to the floats by stainless steel cable, and a 12,000 pound concrete anchor at the land end of the ramp. We will be adding 2 more large concrete anchors to minimize rotation of the structure, and to reduce load on the ramp. The addition of the twelve fingers will bring the size of the marina to 5392 square feet, and increasing the facility to accommodate 36 boats in slips, with side tie space for 11 more.

The dock is designed to be zero maintenance, safe and strong. The frame is constructed of welded aluminum rectangle and square tube. There are two basic sizes of floats that are bolted together onsite in the desired configuration. This makes the marina easy to maintain and repair, and makes it easy to add on more sections later. The deck surface consists of 5 foot long by 1 foot wide Thruflow brand grating panels. Flotation is provided by foam-filled polyethylene box floats. There is nothing to paint, stain or treat in any way. No wood is used for any part of the marina, and there is no exposed foam.

Newport Yacht basin is growing. The portion of Newport Yacht Basin owned by John C Radovich Development Company is being expanded with a new floating dock. The dock will be home to 4 large yachts. The dock will have a high freeboard of 22 inches to accommodate larger vessels, and will be well lit, as well as providing large fingers with ample space for gear lockers. Newport Yacht basin is one of the finest marinas in Lake Washington, with ample parking, and excellent security and maintenance. Most large vessels are forced to dock at commercial facilities, where parking, security and noise are a constant problem. This project will be completed once permits are obtained.

I am working with the community of Chelan Ridge, Coast and Harbor Engineering, and Grette Associates permitting to obtain permits for a 36 slip marina. The marina will be built in very deep water, where pile driving is not possible. We will attach the marina to the cliff face, and build a breakwater float system on the outside and windward side of the marina. This unique location will never ground out, even at the lowest lake levels, so boats can remain at the marina year-round. I am working with the community of Chelan Ridge in Lake Chelan, Coast and Harbor Engineering, and Grette Associates permitting to obtain permits for a 23 slip marina to be built in the spring of 2010.

The marina will be built in very deep water, where a granite cliff makes pile driving impossible. We will attach the marina to the cliff face with steel piles attached using bolts drilled into the granite. This unique location on Lake Chelan will never ground out, even at the lowest lake levels, so boats can remain at the marina year-round. Each boat will have its own slip, which will allow a 4-point tie of the boats to the dock system.
