The Port of Brownsville, Washington is a thriving recreational port. There are over 300 slips for sail and power boats of a wide range of sizes, as well as a number of private boat houses. The location West of Bainbridge Island is a beautiful spot, protected from wind waves and wake by a large, engineered concrete breakwater. There is a waiting list for permanent slips, and the guest slips are often filled as well during the summer. The fuel dock is a destination for boat owners because of competitive prices. There is a good deli, a yacht club hall, lots of parking, nearby shopping in Silverdale and Bremerton, and fantastic facilities for day users, overnight guests, recreational boat owners, and live-aboards. The office staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices for everything are exceptionally reasonable.
The wooden walkways and finger piers of the marina, some over 30 years
old, are in need of replacement, and it's time to expand the marina to
accommodate more boats. The marina staff is making applications to
expand the DNR lease boundaries in order to move the main breakwater
North, and to bring the total number of slips at the marina to 600. I
have sold the port 3 Aluminum finger piers which are in use at the
marina for the evaluation of the staff and customers. It is my hope to
be able to contract to build all the interior floats in this new
replacement and expansion project.
Currently, we are preparing to expand the 44 boat marina at Lake Simtustus RV Resort near Madras, Oregon that we originally built in the winter of 2009. The marina has 406 feet of yacht moorage on the outside, and twenty four 20 foot by 10 foot slips toward shore. We will be adding twelve 4 foot wide by 30 foot long fingers to the outside of the West arm.
The marina is ADA accessible, with a sixty foot long by five foot wide ramp that is at a gentle five degree angle. There are four handicap accessible slips at the marina with special considerations for wheelchairs.
This marina contains 3880 square feet of floats, extends 100 feet into the lake, and is 366 feet long. Anchoring is provided by four large submerged concrete blocks connected to the floats by stainless steel cable, and a 12,000 pound concrete anchor at the land end of the ramp. We will be adding 2 more large concrete anchors to minimize rotation of the structure, and to reduce load on the ramp. The addition of the twelve fingers will bring the size of the marina to 5392 square feet, and increasing the facility to accommodate 36 boats in slips, with side tie space for 11 more.
The dock is designed to be zero maintenance, safe and strong. The frame is constructed of welded aluminum rectangle and square tube. There are two basic sizes of floats that are bolted together onsite in the desired configuration. This makes the marina easy to maintain and repair, and makes it easy to add on more sections later. The deck surface consists of 5 foot long by 1 foot wide Thruflow brand grating panels. Flotation is provided by foam-filled polyethylene box floats. There is nothing to paint, stain or treat in any way. No wood is used for any part of the marina, and there is no exposed foam.
The Yacht Club at Lake Chelan has had a wooden marina with wooden piles for over 30 years. The docks have become difficult to maintain, and the piles are badly worn. There is a concrete breakwater that has to be moved out 50' in winter when lake levels are low. Permits are being obtained to move the breakwater out permanently, and to replace and extend the existing docks.
I constructed a new fuel dock and launch ramp dock for the site in the Spring of 2009. This structure showed how easy it is to run multiple cables and hoses within the frame. The fuel dock serves as the Southeast breakwater for the marina, and is subjected to large boat wake and wind waves.
Newport Yacht basin is growing. The portion of Newport Yacht Basin owned by John C Radovich Development Company is being expanded with a new floating dock. The dock will be home to 4 large yachts. The dock will have a high freeboard of 22 inches to accommodate larger vessels, and will be well lit, as well as providing large fingers with ample space for gear lockers. Newport Yacht basin is one of the finest marinas in Lake Washington, with ample parking, and excellent security and maintenance. Most large vessels are forced to dock at commercial facilities, where parking, security and noise are a constant problem. This project will be completed once permits are obtained.

I am working with the community of Chelan Ridge in Lake Chelan, Coast and Harbor Engineering, and Grette Associates permitting to obtain permits for a 23 slip marina to be built in the spring of 2010.
The marina will be built in very deep water, where a granite cliff makes pile driving impossible. We will attach the marina to the cliff face with steel piles attached using bolts drilled into the granite. This unique location on Lake Chelan will never ground out, even at the lowest lake levels, so boats can remain at the marina year-round. Each boat will have its own slip, which will allow a 4-point tie of the boats to the dock system.
I am under contract to complete a community dock for Friendship Lodge on Lake Wenatchee. This dock will provide side tie for all the lodge members' boats, a swimming platform at the end, and support for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Sockeye rearing pens, as the dock has historically done. The existing wooden floats will be removed and replaced with Aluminum floats, as a storm destroyed the swim platform and a walkway float last year. The existing piles will be retained and re-used. This dock has a 2000 square foot surface area, and projects into the lake 229'.
